Waterloo Day

Following encounters at Quatre-Bras and Ligny on 16th June 1815, Napoleon +72,000 suffered his final drubbing by Wellington + 68,000 and Blücher +50,000  near Waterloo on the 18th June. On that day 7,000 horses were killed.

• Used PlantID to identify Dactylorhiza maculata the heath spotted orchid [see R] before it fell to my scythe in the holocaust of bracken Pteridium aquilinum in the SE corner of our Field-over-the-river.That corner is now a blackthorn forest as the Prunus spinosa suckers out into the field mutually supporting the equally invasive bracken.
