I spend much of my day questioning just what certain rules I am expected to enforce on others are actually for. it hearthens me when a person says - hang on a mo - why does the department want this! cue me being all diplomatic and asking the perpetrator just why they think the dept needs it...sometimes thats enough but on occassion more critical analysis is required.

some years back a new funding programme was introduced in my line of work. It started fairly ok. It was child centred to the extent that the funding matched what would be generally appropriate to a childs needs in our line of work...however within a year the department became more specific about the funding and the criteria and within another year had built up a website of procedures which made it harder for all involved and all in the name of VFM - value for money.

when individuals ask me why its needed i give them the standard line and I give them my own opinion. Generally they opt for the safe option - go with what the dept asks irrespective of how they feel about it. That seems to be a standard response in general in this country.

Personally I wish more people would at least ask why is such and such required and maybe on occassion be a bit more difficult and less co-operative. if nothing else it would make my line of work more interesting.Russiansidehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07899160232382119090noreply@blogger.com
